Map pages in the pdf file are linked to color images of the maps.
Extensive bookmarks are available for dates, names and places. (See the bookmarks panel in the left-hand column.) Acrobat also provides keyword searching capability. (Use the 'binocular' icon on the toolbar.)
A distinction is made between printed page numbers and sequential page numbers. When Acrobat Reader is configured for "Use Logical Page Numbers", page numbers display with the printed page number first, followed by the sequential page number in parentheses, for example: "iv (6 of 500)" and "465 (495 of 500)". You can jump to a specific page by either the printed page number or the sequential page number. To jump by printed page number, type the number to the left of the parentheses. To jump by sequential page number, type the number within the parentheses.
