One Who is Talked of (Ka-na-pi-ma), 1813-? (Ottawa) was baptized Augustin Hamiln, Jr.  Catholic Missionaries sent him and his brother from their home in Northern Michigan to the seminary in Cincinnati, Ohio, and subsequently to Rome to be educated for the priesthood.  The brother died in Rome in 1834 and Kanapima returned to his native home.  As chief of the Ottawa, he led a delegation to Washington, D.C. in 1835, where this portrait may have been painted.
